Ube at the World Coffee Expo: why this Filipino flavour is a perfect match for coffee, latte mixes, syrups and desserts

by Czarina Ocampo

Taste Filipino visited the World Coffee Expo to discover how ube, ube powder and Filipino flavours fit into coffee, latte mixes, syrups, pastries and desserts across the Netherlands and Europe.

Ube at the World Coffee Expo: why this Filipino flavour is a perfect match for coffee, latte mixes, syrups and desserts

Recently, we visited the World Coffee Expo with Taste Filipino. For us it was a great chance to see how fast the world of specialty coffee, drink concepts and flavour makers is evolving. Alongside coffee, many brands were showcasing syrups, latte mixes, flavour powders and other ingredients that coffee shops and food businesses use to expand their menus.

The best part were the conversations themselves: we got to talk with many wonderful brands about what they have to offer, and about what we can bring them with ube powder. It was exactly that exchange, their products alongside our Filipino flavours, that showed how much room there is to work together.

One thing became very clear there: unique flavours are becoming more and more important.

And that is exactly where ube fits in perfectly.

Ube, also known as purple yam, is one of the most recognisable flavours in Filipino cuisine. Its deep purple colour, gentle sweetness and creamy character make ube ideal for modern coffee bars, bakeries and dessert concepts. Think of ube latte, ube cold foam, ube latte mixes, ube syrups, ube croissants, ube cheesecake, ube donuts and creamy ube desserts.

With Taste Filipino, we want to make this flavour accessible to the Dutch and European market. That is why we are working on high-quality ube powder that coffee bars, bakeries, restaurants and food creators can use with ease.

Why ube powder is interesting for the Netherlands and Europe

In the Netherlands and Europe, demand is growing for eye-catching, authentic and Instagram-worthy products. Customers are looking not only for great taste, but also for an experience. Ube offers both: a recognisable Filipino flavour and a powerful visual identity.

For entrepreneurs, ube powder is also practical. It is easy to work into drinks, latte mixes, syrups, dough, creams, fillings, desserts and toppings. This lets businesses test new products quickly without having to work with fresh ube straight away.

Taste Filipino: Filipino flavors, packaged for the world

Our goal is to make Filipino flavours available in a professional, reliable and scalable way, not only for consumers, but especially for B2B customers such as coffee shops, bakeries, Asian supermarkets, dessert bars and foodservice companies.

The World Coffee Expo confirmed once again that there is plenty of room for new flavours within the European food market. From specialty coffee to latte mixes, and from syrups to pastries: we believe ube powder can play a major role in the Netherlands.
